About Dabane Water Workshops


Dabane Water Workshops is a leading Zimbabwean WASH non-governmental organisation that was established in 1991 and registered as a PVO, registration number 25/ 2013.  The organisation operates in the south- western areas of the country that are generally classified as arid and semi- arid rangelands, namely Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North where it develops and supports sustainable low technology community initiatives.


Mission Statement     
                                                                                          
Dabane Trust works with vulnerable communal farmers in arid and semi-arid areas in the Southern Africa region, but more specifically in the south-western regions of Zimbabwe to alleviate poverty and hunger through appropriate and sustainable land use and water management systems. Dabane focuses programmes and activities at the community and household levels where gender relations and HIV and AIDS issues are entrenched.


Scope
  • Work with vulnerable groups of people who have a willingness, understanding and ability to improve their situation.  
  • Work with the poorest of the poor to uplift their standard of living.
  •  Work though a series of appropriate community based support strategies and suitable low technology solutions.

Strategies
  • Develop food security strategies through appropriate and sustainable environmentally friendly land use and water management systems.
  • Assist rural communities develop their own water resources
  • Assist groups realize their potential in planning, managing and directing their development process through capacity building
  • Promote the use and development of sand-abstraction technology through training of groups and partner organizations.
  • Assist groups of people to establish sustainable small-scale irrigated gardens around simple handpump systems and water harvesting schemes.
  • Collect, preserve, store and disseminate seeds of short season and open pollinated traditional crops.
  • Work through a selective process of discussion leading to the development of social, technical and business skills.
  • Mainstream HIV and AIDS, gender and environmental concerns  in all programmes
  • Reduce the adverse effects of Gender, HIV and AIDS through a selection process of discussion, provision of clean water supplies, promotion of health and hygiene and development of food security strategies.
  • Reduce gender imbalances through the promotion of human rights
  • Provide appropriate practical skills training
